SMS6 mobile manure separator

Borculo, October 9, 2024 – Slootsmid Mesttechniek has delivered a new SMS6 mobile manure separator to Blakiston Houston Estates (BHE) from Belfast, Northern Ireland. This manure separator was fully designed and produced in-house, with its core consisting of six FAN screw presses. The installation will be used for the solid and liquid separation of animal manure and digestate on farms in Northern Ireland.

Manure Separation

The SMS6 manure separator is a high-quality system specifically designed for the efficient separation of manure into solid and liquid fractions. This process not only significantly reduces the manure volume but also enables more sustainable use of the nutrients. For example, the solid fraction can be used as an organic soil improver, while the liquid fraction can be reused as a liquid fertilizer. The investment will contribute to more effective nutrient management and help reduce the phosphate surplus in Northern Ireland.

SMS6

The SMS6 is easy to transport and highly maneuverable, as it is built on a steerable tandem axle. With its own power supply and advanced control technology, the SMS6 is very suitable for autonomous operation at various locations. The 6-meter-long discharge auger can rotate 180 degrees, providing a large buffer for storing the solid fraction. Additionally, the installation is equipped with a Slootsmid cutting filter, Borger pumps, a water tank, and a high-pressure cleaner.

BH Estates

BHE operates a dairy farm and a digester, but is also active as an advisor and financial service provider in the agricultural sector. With a team of specialists, BHE conducts its own research into new techniques and implements innovations in the agricultural sector across the United Kingdom. In their search for manure processing techniques, BHE came into contact with Slootsmid and found the SMS6 to be a product that perfectly meets their needs.

Outlook

In addition to the investment in a mobile manure separator, BHE has launched a major research project aimed at further reducing the phosphate surplus in Northern Ireland. The start of this project was announced by Alan Muir, the Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs, who called the project a significant milestone in the Lough Neagh Action Plan.

The Daera Minister said the project had the “potential to radically change the way nutrients are managed by the farming community”
