Just before the start of the 2026 application season, agricultural mechanisation company Gerlsma (NL) delivered an 8-metre Slootsmid Major grassland injector to a dairy farmer in the region. With this investment, the contractor deliberately opts for high capacity and optimal slurry utilisation in grassland under a wide range of operating conditions.

Designed for intensive professional use

The Major grassland injector has been developed for intensive use by contractors and larger dairy farms where capacity and reliability are critical. The robust main frame is equipped with reinforced, angled hinge pins. This heavy-duty construction ensures maximum stability and service life, even under high loads and long working days.

With working widths ranging from 8 to 9.40 metres, this injector is capable of covering large areas within short time windows. The working pattern remains consistent and precise, even under varying soil conditions. The frame design and weight distribution are optimised to ensure uniform ground pressure across the full working width.

To compensate for undulating terrain, the main frame incorporates a unique pendulum system, allowing the wings to pivot up to 10 degrees. In addition, all elements are track-following and ground-contouring to maintain consistent injection depth.

The machine is equipped with Slootsmid’s characteristic double disc coulter elements. This system ensures a clean cut through the grass sward and precise placement of slurry in the slot. The coulters open the sward with minimal soil disturbance, after which the slurry is deposited directly below ground level.

This accurate injection improves nutrient uptake by the crop and reduces emission losses. Direct placement in the root zone results in more efficient utilisation of slurry and demonstrably higher yields per hectare. This makes the Major grassland injector a powerful solution for optimal slurry application.

Flexible and configurable injector

In addition to the 8-metre version, the Major grassland injector is available in working widths of 8.65 metres and 9.40 metres. Optional features include:

As an alternative to the standard double disc coulters, elements with concave discs are also available. This allows Slootsmid to offer a tailored solution for a wide range of users and operating conditions.

Accurate distribution at low application rates

With the phasing out of derogation, lower slurry application rates are becoming increasingly common. At low flow rates, internal overcapacity may occur, potentially compromising uniform distribution across the full working width.

To address this, the Major 800 grassland injector can be equipped with multiple linked distributors mounted on the frame. By distributing the slurry flow under pressure across several distribution points, a constant flow is maintained at each outlet. This ensures accurate and uniform application, even at low rates – starting from 6 m³ per hectare. The result is even crop development and more efficient use of organic fertilisers.
